Christmas page---the tradition continues

Merry Christmas on this Christmas Eve! 

Rick and I decided to use REJOICE as our theme for making our traditional Christmas page.  We could use the computer this year so they look very professional.  I read to Rick some of our previous pages and asked him to extend himself and use some more words to express his thoughts.  I think he really out did himself this year! 

We hope you enjoy reading our traditional page and feel of the LOVE we have for Jesus Christ.  Know too, that you, our family and friends, are loved by Him and by us! 

May you have a wonderful Christmas Day and may your hearts be filled in REJOICING!

Rick in Paris, France

On our trip to Israel/Egypt we had a 4 hour layover in Paris. We took a quick trip to see the Eiffel Tower and a short walk. We each had a crepe and found a small chapel to take a quick photo...then back to the bus and on to Tel Aviv, Israel. Doesn't he look cute in his shorts?

I have my grandson, Paul, for 2 days. We went to DI and he fell in love with this costume.

I bought it and we went on a dragon hunt. FUN!

11th set of six quilts

I've made a few quilts that I didn't get photos of.

 I'm trying to trying to keep a record for myself.  Thus this new post. 

Six New Quilts

This make a total of 100 quilts made in 2012. Seventy-five have been given away.

Two given today at the Relief Society Super Saturday- drawing prizes.

The falls colors one (bottom left) is calling to me and I may have to keep that one.

I've discovered "The Piano guys"

"Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables is one of my ALL TIME favorite songs.  It fills me with love and makes me cry EVERY TIME I hear it.  Now I've discovered the Piano Guys have done it for youtube. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

1st Snow of 2012-2013 Season

I woke up this morning to our first snowfall of the season.  I'm NOT EAGER for snow or the cold weather. I will say that the 1st snow of the season is very BEAUTIFUL today!

2012 Pottery

I tried my hand at pottery again...I don't seem to like it as much this time...I feel rushed because I won't be here to finish the class.  I made some hand shaped items; CTR necklaces and magnets for my Primary class. 

 I also tried leaf plaques.  And I threw a bowel and mug.

Be Honest With Yourself

While growing up in the 1950's and 1960's I remember some posters that impacted my life for the good. These posters help form my early in sense of right and wrong. They were posted in our LDS foyer on the bulletin board. I found some imagesof them on the Internet today and thought I would post them to see if they are familiar to you as well. I recall reading stories and quotes that were on the back of them. They were even passed out (postcard sized) at MIA to individuals who wanted them.

She wishes for a bike! She is saving the money from Grandma Barfuss to buy a bike in the Spring.

We have transformed our back fence into a 3 season beauty.  This photo is looking out our sliding back door on Sept 29, 2012.  We call our yard our oasis in the Utah desert.

Falls colors September 22, 2012

Rick and I decided to be spontaneous today.  We loaded our bikes on the car and headed to the canyon.  Wow! What a beautiful day; 80 degree weather, sunshine and falls colors made it so! 

 We stopped at Sherwood Hills Resort and watched as mountain bike racers took off.  We walked and biked around the area, and took some spectacular photographs on Rick's new cannon camera.I just love the fall, warm days, cool crisp mornings and evenings and lots of sunshine.  

We also stopped at a new discount place (Cache Valley Liquidators) and bought an umbrella stand and umbrella for our deck.  

And, of course, we stopped at DI 

(Pat's favorite place to shop) both in Brigham City and Logan!  Great Day!

Grandchild # 9 turns 4 years old

Our cute Paul Shumway is 4 years old!  He is so cute!

Max and Mason become BLACK BELTS!

It was so fun watching the past years as Max and Mason worked towards their black belts.  

They had to write an essay. I've attached them at the bottom of the photos if you are interested in reading what the said.

They were so energetic at the test it was hard to get pictures that weren't blurry. 

I wish Nick could have stayed in Logan long enough to get his too!

I made this 8 x 10 inch page and Rick enlarged it to 3 x 4 feet poster for the bulletin board in our Ward. I love the way it turned out.

A quick trip to Idaho Falls

Sunday, September 2, 2012 Luke Andrew Shumway received the Priesthood from his father, Andrew.  I went to Idaho Falls on the Salt Lake Express Shuttle on the previous Thursday and stayed with my Dad for two days then spent the Sunday with Sally and her family.  Here are some cute photos Sally sent me of the kids in the shirts I gave then to start school.

August wave runner family vacation

We were so happy to have Nick, Jasmine, Phoenix and Isis visit us for 5 days in August. (They stayed in a cabin at Hyrum State Park and beach.)  

Sally and Luke were the only ones in the family healthy enough to join us.  

We went to the Brigham City Temple Open House.  While there we saw both Sheldon and Bonnie Barfuss who were ushers for the day.  It was fun to see them. 

Max, Brigitte, Mason and Natalie joined us for the day at Hyrum  State Park beach and fun on the wave runners.  The water was really low so we slogged through the clay/mud all day.  I even got stuck twice and Max had to pull me out.  Rick spent most of the day taking kids on the tube behind the wave runner or just going out by himself.  

We also had a picnic in the Park and another in the Canyon.  It was so fun to be together again.  Hope you enjoy the few photos I took.

8th Set of (Seven) Quilts in 2012

Here are my latest quilts and a close up of my cat quilt (Kaye requested a photo of the front and back, she liked the paw prints.) Often I put wild combinations together and wish I could show you every detail. I am still finding material at Deseret Industries (DI.) I am so fortunate that it is still about $1.00-3.00 a yard.

Is it fog or is it smoke?

 I woke up this morning and looked out the window.  I felt like I lived in Snellville, Georgia again  or was visiting San Bruno, California.  Outside I saw this moisture hanging in the air.The fires in our area had been extinguished with yesterday's rain, so I think is is fog. Perhaps it has a little smoke in it too. Anyway, I took 2 photos to remember this day. Now I'm off on my morning walk.

25th Annual Barfuss Memorial Day Games

As the pictures show we had a great time, even though Nick and family were not here and Sally was ill.  We had more time to chill and visit with fewer people not from the family in attendance.  I think I liked it as much as when our children were little.
