Mardi Gras at Snellville Office!

One of the people who helps us put on DeckExpo is from New Orleans. He sent us a King Cake! I think the people I work with were great sports to let me take their photographs for my blog!
The Mardi Gras season officially begins on Jan 6th or "Twelfth Night," also known as "Epiphany" which come from the Greek word meaning "to show." Bethlehem is where the infant Jesus first showed himself to the world. As a symbol of this Holy Day, a tiny plastic baby is placed inside each King cake. The king cake tradition is thought to have come from the French in 1870. A king cake is oval-shaped and is decorated in royal colors of purple (justice), green (faith) and gold (power). These colors resemble a jeweled crown honoring the Wisemen who visited Jesus on Epiphany. At a party the King Cake is slice and served. Each person looks to see if their piece contains the "baby" if so, then they are name "king" for the day and bound by custom to host the next party and provide the King Cake. What Fun we had on Thursday, February 2, 2006, eating our King Cake! No, I didn't get the baby!
Mardi Gras has a movable date it always falls 46 days before Easter.
